CALVARY ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUPS IN DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN

BRONX, NEW YORK, June 2011 - Calvary Hospital has announced changes to their weekly bereavement support groups for adults.  These two groups take place at St. Francis College, located at (182 Remsen Street between Court and Clinton Street).

  • Death of a spouse or partner   5:30-7:00 pm on Wednesdays
  • Death of a Parent   7:15-8:45 pm on Wednesdays

All of Calvary's adult bereavement support groups are in 6 week cycles.  People may take more than one cycle as needed.

In September, Calvary will be launching two children's bereavement support groups one for children ages 6-11 and the other for teenagers.  These groups will also be held at the YWCA.

Individuals interested in any adult group or who want more details the children's groups may contact Dr. Sherry Schachter at (718) 518-2125 or (646) 739-6480.  Individual counseling is available on a limited basis.

All Calvary bereavement groups are open to the public and are free of charge.

In the New York metropolitan area, Calvary has established itself as a resource for grieving families.  Calvary's year-round bereavement programs for school-age children, "Precious Moments," and groups for teens, have helped hundreds of children to date.  Camp Compass, Calvary's innovative summer camp for children ages 6 through 17, will host its 14th annual session this year.  The Hospital's bereavement support groups are available to anyone who has lost a loved one, whether that person was a patient at Calvary, or someone from the larger community whose death is attributable to illness, accident, or other causes.
