28TH ANNUAL CALVARY HOSPITAL AWARDS GALA RAISES $800,000

NEW YORK, NY, June 2011 – More than 400 people attended Calvary Hospital’s 28th Annual Awards Gala on June 7 at The Pierre. The evening raised $800,000 to benefit Calvary programs and services for advanced cancer patients and their families.
Steven J. Golub, Chairman of the Board of the Calvary Fund, presented The Calvary Medal to Carlos M. Hernandez, Managing Director, Global Head of Equities and Prime Services, J. P. Morgan, Investment Bank. Calvary honored Mr. Hernandez in recognition of his distinguished career, exceptional integrity and philanthropic commitment to the principles of Calvary’s mission. Mr. Hernandez’s career bears the hallmarks of excellence, dedication, innovation and notable distinction in his field of endeavor. The same qualities are reflected in the civic commitment which is shared by him and his wife Claire, who have been longstanding partners in Calvary Hospital’s contributions to our community.
The Hospital also presented the Calvary Compatior Award in memory of Dawn M. Greene. Mrs. Greene, the President and CEO of the Jerome L. Greene Foundation, was one of New York’s most notable and visionary philanthropists. An outstanding supporter of Calvary’s mission, Mrs. Greene left a $5 million bequest from her estate to the Hospital. Her generous commitment to Calvary enables present and future generations to benefit from the Hospital’s signature care. Dr. Thomas J. Fahey, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Calvary Hospital, accepted the award on behalf of the Greene family.
Calvary Hospital is the nation’s only fully accredited acute care specialty hospital devoted exclusively to providing palliative care to adult advanced cancer patients. A 225-bed facility with locations in the Bronx and Brooklyn, Calvary is the model for the relief of cancer pain and symptoms for more than a century. More than 5,700 patients are cared for annually by Calvary’s inpatient, outpatient, home care, hospice, nursing home hospice, and wound care programs.
