CALVARY HOSPITAL HOSTS RECORD CROWD

More than 220 people attend 4th Annual Pastoral Care Day

BRONX, NY, October 2010 – Calvary Hospital hosted their most successful Pastoral Care Day ever on Thursday, October 28.  More than 220 pastoral care providers, doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals came together at Calvary’s 4th Annual Pastoral Care Day to learn from an interfaith panel of nationally recognized clinical pastoral care experts.

Following a welcome from hospital President/CEO, Frank Calamari, attendees heard from speakers representing the Pentecostal, Roman Catholic, Muslim, Orthodox Jewish, and Yoruba/Santeria faith traditions.  The workshop covered diverse topics including:

1) “Pentecostal Faith Healing, Illness and End of Life Care”; 2) “Inner Struggle and Inner Peace in Muslim Spirituality”; 3) “Ifá jé Ojú Iwósàa : Ifa is Healing Presence”- Exploring the Santeria/Yoruba perspective on health, healing and the dying process; 4) “Man is Not Alone -- I Fear No Evil for Thou Art with Me: Theological Resources and Strategies for an Effective Clinical Chaplaincy”; and 5) “The Role of Family and Healing Presence” – Exploring resources from Christian and African traditions.

Attendees to Calvary’s event earned 4.5 CPE continuing education credits for the event.
