Calvary Hospital wins unprecedented 7th consecutive Press Ganey Summit Award

Only Hospital from New York to Make this Elite Group

BRONX, NEW YORK, November 20, 2012 – For the 7th straight year, Press Ganey Associates, Inc. has bestowed Calvary with a Summit Award, in recognition of the Hospital’s consistent ranking in the 99th percentile for overall patient satisfaction. Press Ganey awards this annual honor to the country’s top performing health care facilities that sustain the highest level of customer satisfaction for three or more consecutive years. The Press Ganey Summit Awards were first given out in 2006. Calvary is the only hospital in New York State to achieve a Summit Award for Inpatient Satisfaction each year since the award’s inception.

         “Since we were founded more than a century ago, Calvary’s mission has remained the same – to provide the best possible care to every single patient and their families, at a very difficult and sacred time in their lives. This mission is as relevant today as it was in 1899,” said Frank A. Calamari, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are honored that Press Ganey continues to recognize Calvary as being among the country’s best hospitals today.”

         Press Ganey currently partners with more than 10,000 health care facilities -- including nearly 50% of U.S. hospitals -- to measure and improve the quality of their care. The company’s databases are the largest in the industry, and allow facilities nationwide to benchmark their results against peer organizations.

         To date, Calvary’s many accolades include the following:

  • An unbroken track record of accreditation from The Joint Commission for Calvary Hospital and Calvary@Home (Home Care and Hospice);
  • 2012 Circle of Life Award®;
  • Seven consecutive Press Ganey Summit Awards, which we have won every year since the award was launched in 2006;
  • Being designated by the National Cancer Institute in 2005 as an “international center for training in palliative care”; and
  • The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization places Calvary@Home above state and national averages in important patient issues such as relief of pain and patient education.

Calvary Hospital is the nation’s only fully accredited acute care specialty hospital devoted exclusively to providing palliative care to adult advanced cancer patients. A 225-bed facility with locations in the Bronx and Brooklyn, Calvary is the model for the relief of cancer pain and symptoms for more than a century. More than 6,000 patients are cared for annually by Calvary’s inpatient, outpatient, homecare, hospice, nursing home hospice, and wound care services.
