Calvary Honors Zona Evans, CCT With "Catch A Star" Award

Bronx Resident Honored for Her Professional Excellence

BRONX, NEW YORK, September 2013 – Calvary Hospital recently honored Bronx resident, Zona Evans, CCT with the “Catch a Star” Award. The Hospital encourages patients, family members, visitors and employees to nominate members of the nursing staff (nurses, cancer care technicians, and administrative staff) who demonstrate the Hospital’s Core Values of Caring, Compassion, Commitment, Non-Abandonment, and Dignity through their work. Honorees are also expected to go above and beyond to make a difference, and exemplify a “healing touch” presence with patients and family members. Award recipients are chosen by their nurse administrators, peers, physicians, patients and families.

The nomination forms for Zona from colleagues and patients’ family members included comments such as:

  • “She is so caring and compassionate; she made sure my dad ate every day. My dad was moved to another floor and she came to visit to see how he was doing and how he was holding up.”
  • “You don’t find caring people every day like her.”
  • “She was very attentive, made us feel very comfortable and cheered us up when we were feeling no hope, for that we will be forever grateful.”

Zona first joined Calvary in 1998 as a per diem nurse’s aide and graduated from the Hospital’s trademark Cancer Care Technician program in 2001. Zona and her daughter are both CCTs at Calvary and they reside in the North section of the Bronx.
