Social Work/Family Care Services - PDF

Social Workers at Calvary Hospital help patients and their families in coping with the stresses that accompany illness and hospitalization. Because end stages illnesses often leads to problems that are difficult to handle, a Social Work/Family Care Practitioner is assigned to each patient and their family on the day of admission.

The assigned worker is available to the patient and family throughout the period of hospitalization and into the bereavement period, if appropriate. Social Work/Family Care Practitioners help all involved deal with issues such as change and loss, and help to strengthen positive coping skills.

Social Workers meet with patients and their families to identify specific concerns as well as to support and develop ways to cope with the present situation. As part of the healthcare team, they work closely with doctors, nurses and other staff to develop a treatment plan for each patient.
