Our Continuum of Care

Founded in 1899, Calvary is the first and only U.S. hospital dedicated to the palliative care of adult patients with advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. To date, we have provided end-of-life care to more patients than any other single entity in this country.

Our philosophy focuses on treating the person and not just the disease. It means personalized custom care that you cannot get anywhere else. We also focus on caring for patients and their families. We embrace patients from all faith backgrounds.

Industry Leading Hospice and Palliative Care

Our industry-leading Hospice and Palliative Care, CalvaryCare^® is available at four inpatient facilities throughout the New York metro-area: in Manhattan at the Dawn Greene Hospice at Mary Manning Walsh Home, in the Bronx at our 200 bed inpatient hospital, at our 25-bed Brooklyn campus, and at Ozanam Hall of Queens Nursing Home in Bayside.

Calvary is the only hospice care provider in New York City backed by its own hospital. As patients’ medical needs evolve, Calvary is able to easily transfer patients between home hospice care and our acute care inpatient facilities.

Calvary Hospital Hospice

Offered throughout Manhattan and the five-boroughs, Calvary Hospital Hospice is a Medicare-certified Hospice program, which provides care for patients through the care of an interdisciplinary team designed to meet the needs of patients with a terminal prognosis.

Calvary Hospital Hospice embraces and implements the basic assumptions of the hospice concept, including the following:

• Hospice provides palliative medical care, treating the physical, emotional and spiritual pain of the patient and family.
• Hospice treats the patient and loved ones together as a whole unit of care and offers bereavement counseling for surviving caregivers after the patient’s death.
• Hospice patients remain in the familiar, comforting surroundings of home, whether it’s a private residence, nursing home, hospital or an assisted living facility.
• Hospice care provides the following four levels of care: routine care, general inpatient care (if needed), continuous care (during a crisis), and respite care.

Home Hospice Care in Manhattan

Through Calvary@Home, we provide home care and home hospice to patients throughout Manhattan and in the greater New York area.

In the home setting, Calvary@Home partners with patients’ families to promote quality of life, address pain management needs and other symptoms. Our team also works to help prepare both the patient and their loved ones for what to expect in the final days of life.
