Expansion to 18 -beds Made Possible by the Jerome L. Greene Foundation

The Dawn Greene Hospice, located on the 15th Floor of Mary Manning Walsh Home (MMW) on the Upper East Side, officially dedicated their expansion to an 18 bed unit.

Thomas J. Fahey, Jr., MD, Chairman, Calvary Hospital Board of Directors and a member of the ArchCare Board of Trustees presided at the event. The speakers included Sr. Sean William O’Brien, O.Carm, Executive Director, MMW, and Christina McInerney, President & CEO, the Jerome L. Greene Foundation. Frank A. Calamari, President & CEO, Calvary was also present.

The establishment of the 10-bed hospice in 2014 was made possible by an initial $4 million gift from the Jerome L. Greene Foundation to ArchCare, for the benefit of Calvary Hospital. Ms. McInerney’s mother, Dawn Greene, was a strong champion of Calvary’s mission for more than a decade and was committed to the Hospital’s desire to establish a stronger presence in Manhattan.
The Foundation made a second gift of $4 million to make the expansion possible.

“This expansion at The Dawn Greene Hospice furthers the mission of Calvary Hospital and the Mary Manning Walsh Home to provide top-quality care in an atmosphere of grace and dignity,” said Ms. McInerney. “My mother felt there was a crucial need for having a hospice in Manhattan, which would complement Calvary’s facilities in Brooklyn and the Bronx.”

“Since opening this unit in October 2014, this collaboration is a wonderful example of two mission-driven organizations committed to delivering the best possible care to our patients,” said Mr. Calamari. “In nearly four years, more than 1,200 patients and families have benefited from the program of care of offered at this location.”

The patient care program at The Dawn Greene Hospice includes: a fulltime Calvary Hospice Medical Director who is Board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care; Hospice and Palliative Care trained staff in nursing, social work and spiritual care; 18 private rooms with private bathrooms; complimentary cable television and phone service; state-of-the-art patient care equipment; family room with refrigerator, microwave oven, and coffee maker; and 24/7 visiting hours.

Calvary Hospice is a Medicare/Medicaid certified program that provides comprehensive palliative and end-of-life care for patients with advanced cancer and life-limiting illnesses.
