Adult Bereavement Support

bereavement supportCalvary provides one of the New York metropolitan area’s most comprehensive bereavement support programs.

Calvary’s bereavement support is available to anyone who has experienced a significant death in their lives, whether that person was a patient in the Hospital or at home, or someone from the larger community whose death was attributable to illness, accident, suicide or violence.

A continuation of CalvaryCare®

Throughout the greater New York area, Calvary is reaching more people than ever before.

CalvaryCare® continues after a loved one has died – through our robust bereavement support programs, which began more than 35 years ago. Today, Calvary provides one of the New York metropolitan area’s most comprehensive bereavement support programs.

All bereavement support is provided free of charge as part of Calvary’s core mission of compassion and non-abandonment.

Adult Support Groups

Today, Calvary offers more than two dozen bereavement groups that meet regularly in the Bronx, downtown Brooklyn and Upper Manhattan.

Calvary’s adult groups are organized by one’s relationship to the deceased. Meaning there are groups for young bereaved spouses, older bereaved spouses, adult children, parents, siblings, and one conducted entirely in Spanish.

The Hospital offers three unique groups: one geared to the needs of young adults ages 18-25, one for men of all ages, and a mindfulness and movement group for adults that combines talking and experiential exercises such as yoga and guided visualization.

The Hospital first began offering bereavement support groups more than 20 years ago for the families of our patients. Bereavement support is integral to Calvary’s core mission of compassion and non-abandonment.

In the New York metropolitan area, the Hospital has established itself as a resource for grieving families. It offers free bereavement support groups for adults, children, and teens, and referrals for additional support if necessary.

Anyone who is interested in participating must schedule a meeting with one of our bereavement counselors before attending their first session.
