Children’s Bereavement Support Groups

Our children and adolescent support groups are open to those whose important person was cared for at Calvary Hospital or Calvary Hospice, as well as the community at large. The support groups, virtual and in-person (in The Bronx and Brooklyn), provide opportunities for children and adolescents to connect with peers who experienced similar deaths and losses.

Those who join the bereavement support groups will be part of a community where opportunities to honor loved ones are encouraged by participating in various activities, such as expressive art activities, journaling, and sharing meaningful stories that help them feel closer to them.

Sharing the stories of their important person who has died evoke the memories and feelings that reinforce their connection to their person and to actively engage in life. Groups are open to all children and adolescents of all faiths, traditions, and backgrounds. The groups include:

  • Precious Moments (ages 6-9)
    • For in-person support in the Bronx, the Precious Moments group (ages 6-9) meets at Calvary Hospital on Eastchester Road
    • For in-person support in Brooklyn, the Precious Moments and Teen group meets at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help office building in Sunset Park.
  • Tween (ages 10-12)
  • Teen (ages 13-17)

There is no fee to attend children and adolescent bereavement support groups. As part of joining the bereavement program, the children and adolescents are invited to register for Calvary’s free week-long bereavement summer day camp, CampCompass® offered in the month of August.
