Bereavement Counselor, Manhattan Site

Stephanie Insalaco joined Calvary Hospital as a bereavement counselor in 2018. In January of 2021, she earned her licensed in Mental Health Counselor and now holds the credentials of LMHC. She currently facilitates two Death of a Spouse/Partner groups, one Death of a Young Spouse/Partner group, a Precious Moments group for 6-9 year olds, and a Teen group for 13-17 year olds. Stephanie also offers individual bereavement support to grieving individuals. Her groups and sessions remain virtual to ensure greater member access to our services.

Stephanie experienced the deaths of three important family members in 2020. This was during a time when the whole world felt immersed in grief and loss. While everyone was experiencing these challenging times simultaneously, the range of reactions was and continues to be, vast. Stephanie understands that while grief and loss are universal in some way, each person’s process is unique. Through her work, she aims to create a safe and supportive space for every person she works with to share their story with the confidence that they will be heard.

Stephanie is an active host for R4KB, a group for grief professionals in the tri-state area who work with children to support one another and share resources. R4KB meets virtually every other Friday. She also provides educational and interactive lectures on different topics of grief during Calvary Hospital’s Annual Bereavement Course as well as for different organizations in the community who wish to broaden their knowledge of working with bereaved people.

Stephanie obtained her undergraduate degree in Advanced Psychological Studies from Adelphi University and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Baruch College. Prior to joining Calvary, Stephanie worked as a certified Pilates Instructor and studio manager, making her a strong advocate for the mind/body connection and how grief can manifest physically. She is also a freelance artist, both in digital work and traditional mediums.
