About National Doctor’s Day

The first observance of Doctor’s Day was 90 years ago today, March 30th, when, in 1933, Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, wanted to honor physicians by placing red carnations on the graves of deceased doctors. Communities continue to keep the tradition alive by sending greeting cards, delivering red carnations, and placing flowers on the graves of deceased doctors. Red carnations have become symbolic flowers that honor doctors, signifying the qualities of love, charity, sacrifice, courage, and bravery.

Our Calvary Doctors:

Calvary’s President and CEO, Dr. Christopher Comfort, expressed his gratitude to the medical staff, stating, “This group has been our rock and stability. We thank you for your dedication to Calvary.”

Dr. Eric Goldman, the Medical Director, described the staff as family and emphasized the importance of supporting one another “to share our successes and challenges.” He continued, “we’re always striving to get better, and I thank you for being part of the medical staff here.”

There are over one million physicians in the United States, but less than 1% specialize in hospice/palliative care. Calvary is proud to have a team of 30 compassionate doctors who represent this minority.
