Industry Leading Hospice and Palliative Care

Our industry-leading Palliative Care and Hospice, CalvaryCare® is available at our in-patient hospitals in the Bronx and Brooklyn and in patients’ homes throughout Greater New York.

Calvary is the only hospice care provider in New York City backed by its own hospital. As patients’ medical needs evolve, Calvary is able to easily transfer patients between home hospice care and our acute care inpatient facilities.

Offered throughout Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx and Brooklyn, Calvary Hospice is a Medicare-certified Hospice program, which provides care for patients through the care of an interdisciplinary team designed to meet the needs of patients with a terminal prognosis.

Calvary Hospice embraces and implements the basic assumptions of the hospice concept, including the following:

  • Hospice provides palliative medical care, treating the physical, emotional and spiritual pain of the patient and family.
  • Hospice treats the patient and loved ones together as a whole unit of care and offers bereavement counseling for surviving caregivers after the patient’s death.
  • Hospice patients remain in the familiar, comforting surroundings of home, whether it’s a private residence, nursing home, hospital or an assisted living facility.
  • Hospice care provides the following four levels of care: routine care, general inpatient care (if needed), continuous care (during a crisis), and respite care.

Hospice in Manhattan

In the home setting, Calvary Hospice partners with patients’ families to promote quality of life, address pain management needs and other symptoms. Our team also works to help prepare both the patient and their loved ones for what to expect in the final days of life.

“I could not have asked for, nor could I have given, better care to my mom.”

Vivian Migliore“I am writing to you not only as a nurse of 38 years, but also as the daughter of Vivian Migliore. Mom spent her final days receiving Calvary Hospital’s remarkable end-of-life care at The Dawn Greene Hospice at Mary Manning Walsh Home in Manhattan. She suffered horribly from terminal cancer.

Your staff immediately embraced us with comfort and love, and relieved mom’s pain and suffering. Throughout all my years of experience as a Registered Nurse, I could not have asked for, nor could I have given, better care to mom.

The convenience of Calvary now being in New York City was an absolute godsend. I was minutes away, every day, from work and home. For her few remaining days, my mother was able to enjoy our family, friends and even my dog Jake – whom she loved so very much. Mom’s smiles during her final hours will last forever in my heart. Thanks to you.”

Yours truly,
Carolyn Migliore, RN
